Ink Cap Mushroom - July 2013

This pictureof the Ink Cap mushroom aka Coprinus lagopus was taken in a most unlikely place - make a guess?

It was actually in my compost bin in among the rotting vegetable matter. I looked in the next day in anticipation of something more spectacular but it was all over. The technical term is that they "deliquesce."

Incidentally the black liquid that this mushroom releases after being picked was once used as ink - hence the name.

Jackdaw - December 2013

These pictures was taken - through the living room window - in my garden in St Ishmaels.

We throw old bird seed (from the 2 cockatiels we have "inherited") in the garden and there is always the opportunist waiting.

The eye seems to make the Jackdaw appear scary!!
