Moon - August 2013

This picture was taken at 21:45 on 16th August from my garden in St. Ishmaels.

It was taken on a Lumix DMC-FZ28 at f4 with ISO 100 & 1/100sec.

Currently the Moon is what's called waxing gibbous - it is 77% of full and a number of craters/mare can be identified including Copernicus (middle, left) and note also the Apennine mountain range to its right and heading up at 45 degrees.

From Earlier This Year

Things have been quiet on the astro front recently so here's a nice picture from January.

It was taken on my Lumix DMC-FZ28 a lucky shot really as there was nothing showing in the viewfinder.

We can see Jupiter shining brightly in the centre with the distinctive V shape of the Hyades below and the Pleiades above.

Currently Jupiter is in Gemini and becoming more favourable for viewing and hopefully photographing!
